Split Rock Lighthouse, an iconic North Shore Minnesota site, was built in 1910 and decommissioned in 1969. In its heyday it's light was visible over Lake Superior for up to 22 miles, and up until the mid-1920s there were no roads to it so it was only accessible by water.
